Missing in Action

Hello dear readers! I’ve been gone for so long I don’t even remember the last post I made here. Apologies! I’ve been off traveling, celebrating the Holidays and oh yes- having a Baby!! Our daughter Waverly was born in November and life has been wonderful- albeit crazy busy!

I miss blogging and playing with my Filo. So I’m planning to be back soon! Thanks for sticking with me and for all of your views and comments: you make me want to keep sharing what goes on in my crazy full creative brain.

See you soon. πŸ™‚

Mondays with OperaGirl- Monday, September 1

Happy Labor Day!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my Filofax and blogging lately. Trying to decide which direction I want to take the Blog and how much time I want to devote to it… I really, truly, love everything that relates to my planning life. I’m never tired of dreaming up new ways to improve my productivity and streamline my organization and planning. I am always delighted by the tips and hacks I find online, on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and from my own imagination. So I’ve decided to keep blogging and keep sharing my ideas. Hopefully, there are a few of you out there that will still enjoy some of the new things I’ve dreamt up (or borrowed and made my own!).

Happy Holiday weekend, and Happy Planning!

Mondays with OperaGirl- August 11, 2014

Hello everyone!

Things have been more than a little crazy in our home for the last several months. And for once it’s nothing to do with work!

We are expecting a little girl in November. Yay! Loads of pink, nursery painting, clothes, decisions and doctors appts have been dominating our free time. I HAVE been using my planner loads during these busy months, but haven’t made the time to blog about most of them. If you follow me on Instagram (@operagirlusa) then you’ll be keeping up a bit. But otherwise, let me give you a quick overview of some of the new fun stuff in my Filofax. πŸ™‚

First off, I’ve been meal planning again. Not only does it save us money, but I feel more calm throughout the week as I already know I have all the ingredients for a dish on hand and an idea for dinner each night! If I have to decide “on the fly”, I usually end up panicking and buying loads of stuff or eating crap instead of cooking. Having a plan is SOOO much better:

Love this half-insert that I designed.
I stick it in the weekly pages in my planner and I’ve also started using daily pages- my days are so full and have so many random things I try to get done. I’ve found that there isn’t the room on my weekly pages for all I do in a day, and I loathe looking at my scribblings from Monday and Tuesday for the whole rest of the week. This way my daily craziness is separated from the future planned events that are in my weekly page spread.

Here is a look at my weekly pages:

And here is a look at my daily page. See the spot for meal planning at the bottom? I love this! I can tell at a glance each day what I have planned for dinner. I also really love that I can add fun stickers, decor and tape to these daily pages. I tend to decorate in spurts- do several weeks or months at a time and then they are already “cute” by the time I get to them. Being daily, it also means if I don’t really like what I did, I only have to look at it for one day! πŸ™‚

I also added my clear fly-leaf designed page into the daily pages. I just did this today, as I’m hoping some of those random notes to myself and sticky notes with reminders can go here, rather than covering up something on my week OR something on my daily page. I’m hoping this will be a good solution…

The only other thing that I’ve changed in my planner is a “categorized” to-do list.

This. Has. Changed. Everything!

I now know what I need to be focused on when I sit at my desk.
Or if I’m running errands. Or if I’m in front of the computer.
OR if I’m looking for something fun to do that I finally have some time to enjoy!
You get the idea.

Use what categories work for you- I also carried on the color-coding of sections in my Filofax to help my brain recognize the categories immediately.

Categories for me are:

That’s it for me today- I’m excited to share with you all the new ideas I’ve been cultivating and implementing this summer! I hope you are enjoying some fun and sun, whatever you’ve been up to and I’ll be talking to you soon.

Happy Monday!

Fave Things- Corner Punch (Becky Higgins)

The other day in Michaels I came across this little beauty:

It’s a corner punch for Project Life users- which I’m not. But it got me thinking about the looked of round-cornered cards or paper that I like to use for lists in my Filo… it just makes them look more “finished” somehow.

I have some of the stickers for the “Snap” collection but the colors don’t really go with any other paper I have. So I found some of their cards and thought I could make them look more like Project life cards using the punch!

The cards are so cute!

Here is before the Corner punch:

And here is after!

Nice and “finished.” I love it!

Can’t wait to use this on more of my homemade lists and cards. πŸ™‚

Happy Organizing!

Travel & Filofax- Orla Kieley Orange Zip Pouch

I know most of you have probably already seen and heard about this new favorite travel case, but I managed to find one and am going to give you a little tour of what I keep inside!

Here she is:

A top view:

I love the light blue zip-pulls; they contrast so nicely with the orange color.Β Here it is open:

First, on the left side I’m keeping a small pad of paper, some washi tape on a piece of cut-down plastic and some fun sticky flags.

It’s a bit tricky to get things in this side, as the zip prevents anything going in that is the width of the case, it has to be a little smaller.

Next is the middle zip section. I like the clear mesh so you can put things on both sides and get double the storage:

The other side:

And finally, the right side. This is really the only thing I don’t love about this case- there are pre-measured pockets and I can’t for the life of me figure out what to fit in them!

They’re too deep for most things (they get lost and I forget there is something even in there) or it’s not wide enough to fit the things I would like. Sigh. I’m not sure it’s going to work for me permanently, simply because I feel like half the space is wasted! If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please comment. πŸ™‚

Thanks for joining me! Happy Organizing.

Online- Miss Tiina Mini Calendars

I’m always torn about using monthly calendars in my Filofax-
I would rather look at my weekly overview than monthly.

I can fit more into my weekly pages,
I don’t like the month being in a vertical view,
and there really isn’t enough room in the Personal size to fit very much information at all.

So there you have it. But sometimes I need to see a date in advance and it’s nice to get a sense of how much of the month has gone by- so I found these little guys, by MissTiina, and shrunk them down to fit as stick-ins at the front of my week.

How fun are they?! I love the bunting on each one…
I’m also going to add a sticker to the blank spots… πŸ™‚

They look great next to the rest of my week!

Happy Organizing.
